Take Heart in the Storm: John 16:33

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
— John 16:33

Today’s Task: Sit With the Storm

We all want peace, but we usually define it as the absence of chaos. As moms, especially, we fight for calm: tidy homes, quiet toddlers (just for five minutes!), routines that “work”. But then the storm hits, whether it’s in your home or in the headlines, and you’re reminded: peace isn’t something you create; it’s something you receive.

Jesus didn’t say you might have trouble. He said you will. But His words weren’t ones of despair; they were filled with preparation and promise:

“In me, you may have peace… I have overcome the world.”

So, today’s task is simple, but not easy:
Sit with the reality that the storm may not end quickly, but Jesus is already victorious in it. You don’t have to fix what’s broken. You just need to draw near to the One who already has.

Journal Entry Prompt

Find a quiet moment (or just a moment) today and write out your response to these prompts. Invite the Holy Spirit to search your heart as you do.

  1. Where am I currently experiencing tribulation? (This could be spiritual unrest, anxiety, grief, temptation, or even fatigue.)
  2. Do I truly believe Jesus has overcome the world? Why or why not?
  3. What do I think peace looks like? What would it mean to receive Jesus’ peace instead of trying to manufacture my own?

Prayer Over Texas, North Carolina, My Nation, & The World

Dear God,

We come before You with heavy hearts. The flooding in Texas and North Carolina has taken lives, homes, and security; and we mourn with every family affected. We know You were there; that you wept for your people and that those who turned to You were welcomed home. Lord, we ask for comfort that only You can provide. Wrap Your mercy around those who are grieving. Hold them up with a strength that is not their own.

We acknowledge that this world is broken—not just by natural disaster, but by sin. So, we repent. We turn from pride, compromise, and spiritual numbness. We know this isn’t Your punishment but a wake-up call. May these tragedies not be wasted or forgotten—may they draw your people back to You.

And for every mama reading this—bring peace and calm into her home today. Into her mind. Into her spirit. May she hear Your voice above the noise of fear. May she trust in Your victory when her hands are tired. And may she take heart, knowing You have overcome it all.

In Jesus name, amen.

Takeaway Truth

True peace isn’t found in quiet days—it’s found in the presence of the Overcomer, the one true Savior and God.
