Year in the Bible Week 1 Day 4: Spend Time in The Word

Read: Psalms 1-2

Psalms in Hebrew means songs. The book of Psalms is a collection of songs, prayers, and poems written by multiple authors over many years. These writings were meant to be sung, prayed, and remembered.

I personally enjoy reading Psalms and was especially looking forward to today’s reading before even cracking my Bible open. In the first two chapters, we are being told how we can be blessed by God. On the flip side however, we are also being “warned” what to avoid so that we may stay on the right path.

“Blessed is the one who… meditates on His law day and night.”
— Psalm 1:1–2

One key takeaway is the importance of filling ourselves with God’s Word and meditating on it daily. If we don’t intentionally fill our lives with godly things, negative influences can slowly start to creep in.

One way that I tried to be more intentional in 2025 was with what I watched. If a show went against what I believe to be true, based on Biblical morals, I turned it off. That left me watching a lot of sappy romantic movies (think Hallmark, haha). While those aren’t perfect either, they were a better alternative to the reality TV I typically found myself enjoying. I know, I know. It’s still important to remember that Hallmark sells happiness, but the Bible sells Heaven (ultimate happiness). I’ve also been listening to more Christian music; shoutout to Forrest Frank!

“The Lord watches over the way of the righteous…”
— Psalm 1:6

To meditate on God’s law means to fill yourself with it and allow it to be all consuming. That might look like rereading the same passage until your mind doesn’t wander, memorizing Scripture, spending time in prayer, or saying verses out loud and speaking them over your life.

These two videos explain biblical meditation in different ways, but both offer helpful perspectives on what it means to meditate on God’s Word:

You need to mediate on the word of God to see its power affect your spiritual life. Memorization will only take you so far, meditation is the secret to spiritual growth.

A Note from the Author

Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.

The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me and what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.

This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.

Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.

Blessings,

Maria Wilcoxon
