Read: Psalms 6-8
I apologize for the delay in today’s Bible verse study. I am battling an illness and trying to prioritize sleep and rest, which is not easy with two littles and a husband that works long shifts as a firefighter. Thank you for your patience.
We know that the Book of Psalms is a collection of songs and poems. I love seeing Scripture set to music; truths that were sung out so long ago and are still lifted as praise and worship today.
In Psalm 8, we see this declaration twice:
“LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!”
God loves to hear our prayers, and He delights in our worship. He loves to hear His people sing praises to His name. How beautiful!
“I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness; I will sing the praises of the name of the LORD Most High.” — Psalm 9:2
“Speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord.” — Ephesians 5:19
“I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.” — Psalm 104:33
This matters so much in multiple aspects, but especially in motherhood. Our children are always watching and listening. Well … maybe only selective listening haha. When they hear us worship, whether it’s in the car, while folding laundry, or rocking a baby, they are learning what it looks like to turn our hearts toward the Lord in every season. Even on the hard, exhausting days, our praise becomes a testimony for the little hearts growing and learning around us.
Here are a few practical ways that I try to incorporate worship, some more often than others:
- Listen to worship music in my car while driving.
- Workout to worship music (think Forrest Frank)
- Sing and dance to worship music in my kitchen with my kiddos
- Hum or sing while nursing or rocking my baby
- Go to church in person and praise His name together as a family -my toddler’s Sunday school class sings with the children’s department
- Attend a Christian concert and sing out loud
- Go to a worship night or event at church
Worship doesn’t have to be perfect or polished, especially in motherhood. When we praise Him, we are discipling our children without even realizing it.
Discussion Question
What is one practical way that you can incorporate worship and praise?
A Note from the Author
Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.
The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me, what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture, and what the Holy Spirit is sharing through me. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.
This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.
Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.
Blessings,
Maria Wilcoxon
