Read: Isaiah 12-17
As I read through these chapters, a few themes repeatedly stood out:
- The call to repentance before the Lord
- The importance of humility
- The role of prophecy
- Our ability to seek refuge and protection in God
- The reality of spiritual warfare
“Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord Himself, is my strength and my defense; He has become my salvation.” — Isaiah 12:2
This verse reminds us that we do not have to live in fear. When we place our trust in God, He becomes our strength, our protection, and our peace.
Prophecy also plays a significant role in Scripture. Especially when comparing the Old and New Testaments, we see that God is faithful to fulfill His promises. This gives us confidence that we can trust Him completely, both in Biblical reference and in our own lives today.
Isaiah 12 also highlights the importance of praising God. When we trust Him and understand His faithfulness, praise flows naturally from our hearts. We can rejoice in His goodness, even in the difficult seasons.
“… give praise to the Lord, proclaim His name …” – Isaiah 12:4
I think of our relationship with God as similar to that of a loving father and child. Not everyone has had a strong earthly father, but the Lord is always our perfect Father. He is someone we can run to, rely on, and find safety in.
I was blessed to have both my dad and my grandfather serve as strong, loving father figures in my life. They protected me, cared for me, taught me, and made me feel safe. That experience has shaped how I view God as my heavenly Father. It also shaped how I think about marriage and motherhood. When I was dating, I knew I wanted a man who reflected God’s character, someone who would lead, protect, and love his family well. That is why I chose to leave a past relationship that didn’t align with that vision. Now, my husband of five years leads our family with faith, love, and integrity, continuing to learn and grow, and I am grateful for the example that he sets for our two children.
Discussion Question
- How does understanding God as a loving Father shape the way that you relate to Him?
- Even if you did/do not have a strong earthly father, how has God filled that role for you?
A Note from the Author
Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.
The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me, what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture, and what the Holy Spirit is sharing through me. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.
This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.
Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.
Blessings,
Maria Wilcoxon
