Year in the Bible Week 4 Day 6 (27): Promises Kept

Read: Isaiah 18-22

Apologies for the delay in today’s Bible study. We got over two feet of snow here in Ohio, and I made the mistake of trying to leave the house today… I got my 4-wheel-drive SUV stuck three times. Thankfully my husband was able to get me unstuck, and we are all safe and warm. The real issue was our long gravel driveway with wind-blown snow piled across it. Not how I planned to spend my day, but God answered my prayers and kept us safe. I’m very thankful for my husband as well!

Today’s reading is Isaiah chapters 18–22. Again, Isaiah is not my favorite book of the Bible. There are a lot of warnings, prophecies, and words that feel heavy to read. What stood out to me today is how God keeps His promises.

Think of times in your life when you’ve made promises. Did you keep them? Too often people say “I promise,” when in fact they don’t mean it. I try to only use that phrase when I know that I can stay true to my word. This is especially true in my parenting. I try my absolute best to only promise things to my children when I know that I can keep those promises. I want the words that I speak to matter to my children. I want them to know that they can rely on what I say, just like we can rely on what God says.

These chapters are a reminder that God is in control of all nations, not just Israel. He makes promises, and He follows through; often in ways we don’t understand right away and sometimes in ways we will never truly understand. If you want a deeper breakdown and explanation of how the prophecy is fulfilled, this blog article explains it better than I can right now: James Jackson Blog

Over and over in these chapters, and in the whole Bible, we see that God doesn’t fail.

“Surely, as I have planned, so it will be.” -Isaiah 14:24

That applies to our lives too. God hears our prayers. Lately, I’ve been trying to pray more intentionally, asking for God’s will, and for the Holy Spirit to guide my thoughts and actions.

As a mom, I want to be a good example for my kids. I want to know Scripture better so that I can teach them and answer their questions honestly and with Biblical knowledge. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it. Even when the chapters are hard to read, or life feels messy and unplanned, like my day today, God is faithful. No part of His Word is wasted.

Discussion Question

How do you talk about God’s faithfulness with your children when life doesn’t go according to plan?

A Note from the Author

Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.

The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me, what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture, and what the Holy Spirit is sharing through me. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.

This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.

Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.

Blessings,

Maria Wilcoxon
