Year in the Bible Week 4 Day 7 (28): Bold Faith

Read: Matthew 8-10

In today’s chapters we see so many miracles performed by Jesus. We also see the reality of people’s faith, or sometimes their lack thereof. Some people believed immediately. Others doubted, hesitated, or just didn’t get it.

I’m going to share something that I recently struggled with, but I want to be real and hold myself accountable. I consider myself crunchy, but life is about balance. So yes, I still enjoy the occasional Starbucks drink. *Audible gasp.* As I pulled up to the Starbucks drive through, I decided that I was going to be bold and pray for my barista; giving BibleNBlondes energy. When I got to the window, well, I chickened out. One, it was freezing outside and we were both awkwardly rolling our windows open and closed. Two, he appeared to think differently than I do. I know we’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but the voice, makeup, and pride rainbows on the apron weren’t exactly subtle. My inner voice kept telling me to just say something as I argued with myself internally: “I’m not a regular here, they don’t know me. I can just wait until he hands me my drinks and drive away if things go south. Just ask if he needs prayer. Say something about Jesus.” I panicked and told him to have a good day and stay warm. I felt bad as I drove away.

Then I read Matthew 10 and it felt like God was calling me out a little.

“Do not worry about what to say or how to say it… for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” -Matthew 10:19–20

Message received.

It’s important to share the good news of Jesus, especially with those who may be far from a relationship with God. Who knows, maybe that man has a better relationship with God than I do. I’m not the ultimate judge. I am a work in progress trying to act in obedience and love for my God and help make Heaven crowded.

“Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.” -Matthew 10:32

Another big theme in Matthew 10 is putting God first. Above everything. Even family. Even our kids. Even ourselves. That can feel difficult, especially as mamas doing our best to care for our children and protect and love them. When we surrender our desires, plans, and comfort to God, He rearranges things the way they’re supposed to be. Not always the easy way and not always the way we’d choose.

I didn’t get it right at Starbucks that day. And I hate that. However, God isn’t finished with me; and He’s definitely not finished with you either. Next time, I want to be braver and bolder.

Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. -Acts 4:29

Discussion Question

How can you step out and be brave and bold for God?

    A Note from the Author

    Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.

The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me, what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture, and what the Holy Spirit is sharing through me. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.

This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.

Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.

    Blessings,

    Maria Wilcoxon
