Year in the Bible Week 9 Day 2 (58): Spiritual Wisdom

Read: 1 Corinthians 1-2

Today we begin the book of 1 Corinthians. This book is a letter that was written by the Apostle Paul to the church in Corinth. Paul wrote to encourage them, correct division in the church, and remind them that true wisdom comes from God, not from the world.

In chapter 2, we see that God’s wisdom is revealed through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Trinity is God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit. While each serves a different role in God’s plan, they are one. Scripture teaches about all three, sometimes calling them different names: Word, Abba, Father, Spirit, Rock, Savior, Adonai, Alpha & Omega, Jehovah Jireh, Yahweh, Cornerstone, Elohim, and so many more.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” -John 1:1

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” -Matthew 28:19

“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” -2 Corinthians 13:14

Paul reminds the Corinthians that his preaching was not about sounding impressive or wise by worldly standards. Instead, it was about the power of God working through the message of Christ.

“My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power.” -1 Corinthians 2:4

God has great plans for each of us. Trying to fully understand those plans isn’t always easy, but we can place our faith in Him and trust that His plans are far greater than anything we could imagine.

“What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”—the things God has prepared for those who love Him. -1 Corinthians 2:9

Love God. Allow Him into your life. Place your faith in the Holy Trinity and let Him lead you. Don’t waste time chasing the ways of the world or things that ultimately mean nothing. Instead, chase after God and allow the Holy Spirit to work within you. With God, all things are possible.

“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’” -Matthew 19:26

Discussion Questions

  1. Paul wrote to a church that was struggling with division. What kinds of division do we still see among believers today?
  2. Are there areas in your life where you may be chasing the wisdom or approval of the world instead of seeking God’s guidance?

A Note from the Author

Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.

The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me, what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture, and what the Holy Spirit is sharing through me. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.

This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.

Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.

Blessings,

Maria Wilcoxon
