Year in the Bible Week 9 Day 4 (60): Daughter of a King

Read: Psalms 24-26

Psalms 24–26 are written by David, and right away he reminds us who everything belongs to:

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” -Psalm 24:1

We are God’s. We belong to Him. He created us and everything around us. He knew what would come of this world before it ever came to be, yet His heart still breaks when we choose sinful ways that are incompatible with Him and the plans He has for our lives.

When I read this, I think about what it means to be a daughter of the King. There’s a country song that says, “She’s somebody’s daughter.” And we, as women, are. We have a loving Father who wants the very best for us. As women, as mothers, as sisters in Christ, we should treat ourselves and one another like daughters of a King. Raise your daughters to know their worth. Raise your sons to honor it. Pray for toxic people, but don’t keep yourself in spaces that tear you down or make you feel less than. Be gracious & kind in heart and spirit to another and to yourself.

Social media makes this hard. It’s easy to compare, to wish the numbers on the scale were lower, your skin clearer and smoother, everything … “shinier.” Remember though that most people are only showing their highlight reels on social media through filters, edits, and sometimes fake smiles. I definitely feel better with a filter on snapchat! It can be difficult not to. But it is something I am becoming more aware of as I raise my children. I tell my son that I do my hair and makeup to feel fancy, but those things don’t make me beautiful. I’ll raise my daughter to know the same.

David continues:

“In you, Lord my God, I put my trust. I trust in you…” -Psalm 25:1–2

“Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.” -Psalm 25:4–5

“May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope, Lord, is in you.” -Psalm 25:21

When we put our hope and trust in the Lord, our perspective changes. We stop looking to the world for validation and start looking to our Father for identity. And who is this Father?

“Who is he, this King of glory? The Lord Almighty— he is the King of glory.” -Psalm 24:10

God is our King. When we truly treat Him as such, He shapes our hearts, guards our minds, and brings a different kind of glory into our lives, the kind that isn’t fake, filtered, or fleeting, but eternal.

Discussion Questions

  1. Psalm 25 repeatedly talks about trusting and hoping in the Lord. In what areas of your life is it hardest for you to fully trust and hope in God?
  2. Social comparison is very common today. How can remembering that we are daughters (and sons) of the King help protect us from comparison and insecurity?

A Note from the Author

Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.

The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me, what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture, and what the Holy Spirit is sharing through me. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.

This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.

Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.

Blessings,

Maria Wilcoxon
