Year in the Bible Week 13 Day 5 (86): All Powerful

Read: Job 25-26

Today’s reading was short, but we can still take something away from it. Dominion and awe belong to God, just like Bildad says (Job 25:2). He is amazing, powerful, remarkable, beyond every word and synonym we could even try to use. He always has been and always will be. And somehow, He chose to use that same power to create us. Us. You and me. People who turn away from Him, shame Him, hurt Him, cast Him out, swear on His name, and do anything but love Him. Still, He chose to create us. We are so blessed!

Lately, my three-year-old has been asking big questions about God. The kind of questions that don’t have easy answers. The “how” behind everything; how God does miracles, how He hears us, how He raised Jesus from the grave, how He helped David defeat Goliath, how He is so powerful, etcetera. The truth is, I don’t always have a perfect answer for him. I try my best to explain, but he’s three. Honestly though, I think there’s something both good and hard in that. He doesn’t have the negative worldview that a lot of us do. He hasn’t experienced deep hurt or pain yet. He’s not asking why God has forsaken him. He’s just a little boy who is loved. He has parents who care for him, a home, family and friends, a pet, clothes that fit, food and endless snacks, and more. He is blessed and covered in love. He has experienced loss, but even that hasn’t shaken him deeply because he believes they go to heaven.

Bildad speaks about how small we are compared to God. Yes, we are, but we also know something that he didn’t fully see yet, and that is that we are deeply loved. We know we are everything to Him, because He sent His only Son to die for us. He sacrificed a part of Himself for us. And let’s be real here, would you sacrifice your own child to save a bunch of sinful, hateful strangers? I wouldn’t.

In Job 26, “destruction” comes from the Hebrew word Abaddon. This comes from the root word abad, meaning “to perish” or “to be lost.” That’s what we deserve in our sin: feeling lost and dying in our sin. Instead, we are loved. We are rescued from our sin by God. We should be in that place of destruction, torture, and torment, but He didn’t leave us there.

“He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted.” -Job 5:9

We may never understand His power, but we can trust it. Rest in knowing that the same God who holds all things, is holding us too.

Discussion Question

  1. Do you find it hard to trust what you don’t understand? Why?

A Note from the Author

Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.

The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me, what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture, and what the Holy Spirit is sharing through me. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.

This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.

Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.

Blessings,

Maria Wilcoxon
