Read: Exodus 1-4
God is, was, always has been, and always will be. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. In Exodus 3 we are reminded of this directly from God Himself as He speaks to Moses.
“God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM … This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation.’” -Exodus 3:14–15
Before this moment, we see the reality of the world Moses was born into. Egypt was powerful. This power grew bigger when they were prepared for the famine because of Joseph. As generations passed, Joseph eventually died (Exodus 1:6), and a new king rose up (Exodus 1:8). The Israelites became enslaved, oppressed, and controlled.
Out of fear, the king ordered the Hebrew midwives to kill every baby boy (Exodus 1:15–16), but the midwives feared God and refused. God was still working in all of this. Moses was born during this time, but his life was spared (Exodus 2:1–10). Not by coincidence, or by accident, but because God was in his story. God’s plan is always bigger than what we can see, especially in the moment.
“God saw the Israelites… and God knew.” -Exodus 2:23
God sees and God knows. Sometimes we didn’t do anything wrong to end up where we are, and yet we’re in hard, unfair situations. Unfortunately, we live in a sinful world. But that doesn’t mean that God isn’t there. Moses was placed right where he needed to be, even in the middle of everything that was going on in Egypt. As a parent, this world can feel scary at times. But my children were born for such a time as this and God has a plan for them.
We then see Moses be human and sin. Moses un-alived a man (Exodus 2:11–15) and ran away. That one moment separated him from everything for 40 years. Even there, in the wilderness, God met him. God sees and knows even our deepest sins. We can’t hide them or cover them. God meets us in the midst of our sins and shows us love, grace, and mercy.
In Exodus 3, God calls out to Moses. Moses asks these questions:
Who am I? (Exodus 3:11)
Who are You? (Exodus 3:13–15)
Moses doubted himself and felt incapable. God’s answer wasn’t to build Moses up, it was to point back to Himself. I AM. The answer wasn’t Moses’ ability, it was God’s truth and identity.
“The Lord said … I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” -Exodus 4:11–12
How often do we hold back because we don’t feel ready, or equipped, or good enough? God is saying that he will be with us and help us. God can work through our weakness, but not through our disobedience. He is making His name known and He is still seeking people who are all in.
The same God in Exodus is the same God now. The One who sees, who knows, who calls, who provides. The One whose plans are bigger than our understanding. The One who uses broken, imperfect people to do His work. The question isn’t whether God is able. It’s whether we’re willing.

A Note from the Author
Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.
The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me, what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture, and what the Holy Spirit is sharing through me. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.
This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.
Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.
Blessings,
Maria Wilcoxon
