A Review of A Beautiful Calling Ethical Boutique – Where Purpose Meets Fashion and Decor
Trigger Warning: Sex trafficking, abuse
You may want to grab your tissues for this one because writing this had me almost tearing up.
As a conscious consumer, I’m always looking for brands that align with my values, and I recently came across A Beautiful Calling Ethical Boutique; a business that truly stands out in its mission to make the world a better place. Founded by Jess Touchette and her husband Jon, this company isn’t just about selling beautiful products; it’s about creating change in the world through ethical shopping.

The Story Behind A Beautiful Calling
Jess and Jon’s journey to founding A Beautiful Calling started with a deep desire to help artisans thrive globally. After seven years of representing an ethical fashion brand that helped survivors of human trafficking, they felt called to expand their impact. Their inspiration came from a trip they took to La Paz, Bolivia, in June 2024. There, they met artisans, heard their dreams, and saw firsthand the power of purposeful work.
This trip reaffirmed their mission to launch A Beautiful Calling Ethical Boutique. They wanted to partner with ethical businesses worldwide, creating a network of artisans from marginalized communities who could benefit from fair wages and dignified work.
The Meaning Behind the Name
A Beautiful Calling wasn’t just a name that was chosen lightly. According to Jess, it came out of a particularly heart-wrenching year. In 2024, their business faced unexpected challenges, forcing them to reconsider their direction. Jess even found herself wrestling with returning to her career as a pharmacist or exploring other direct sales opportunities. However, after much reflection, it became clear: their true calling wasn’t about just making a living, it was about changing lives.
Jess shares that their business, though it may not make sense by worldly standards, is exactly what they were meant to do. Their faith guides their work, and A Beautiful Calling isn’t just about selling products; it’s about transformation: physically, spiritually, and ethically.

The Heart of A Beautiful Calling
As a homeschooling mom of four, Jess has a unique perspective on what it means to support families and communities. She and her husband run the business debt-free from the basement of their home, partnering with over 30 artisan groups across the globe, especially those that employ women escaping exploitation or at risk due to systemic poverty. These artisan groups provide more than just a paycheck as they offer hope and an opportunity to break the cycle of poverty.
A Beautiful Calling’s mission is to connect conscious consumers with beautifully crafted, ethically sourced products that empower artisans worldwide. Through their online store, they offer handcrafted goods made with care and purpose, and each purchase helps combat poverty, human trafficking, and other global injustices.

Faith-Based Values in Business
For Jess and Jon, their business is deeply tied to their Christian faith. They partner with social enterprises that not only help provide income opportunities but also support outreach efforts in disconnected communities and red-light districts around the world. Many of these businesses were founded by Christians who use their work as a platform for ministry, bringing the gospel to areas where it’s needed most.
God is always near, even when we don’t yet know Him or find it hard to trust Him. For women who have endured deep trauma, it may take time to believe that a good God could exist—let alone care. But through a relationship with Christ, true healing begins, and with Him comes the promise of eternal hope.
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
— Psalm 34:18
My Personal Review
I recently received several wonderful items from A Beautiful Calling: the Unity Bowl, Kantha Kitchen Towel, Wool Wristlet Keychain, and Hon’s Lotion Bar. While I love each piece, the towel and Unity Bowl are my absolute favorites!
The Unity Bowl is made by Starfish Project, a Fair-Trade organization working in Asia to restore hope to women exploited by trafficking and abuse. Through their Holistic Care Programs, women receive vocational training, shelter, healthcare, counseling, and education for both themselves and their children. What really moved me is that these women don’t just make beautiful products; they grow into roles like managers, photographers, accountants, and designers. Holding this bowl in my hands is like holding a symbol of transformation and restored dignity. And seeing it in my home is a reminder of the women that have endured so much and can still create something so beautiful.
The Kantha Kitchen Towel is full of charm and story. Each one goes through the hands of three women and creates five hours of dignified work. It’s stitched through partnerships with the Asha Project in India and SERRV International in Bangladesh. These organizations offer more than income; they foster community and leadership, helping women rise out of poverty and into purpose. The towel is just too pretty for me to use, so I currently have it as decor under a vase of flowers; it’s a gentle reminder of the beautiful hands behind it.
The Wool Wristlet Keychain was made by SutiSana in Bolivia. “Suti” means “name” in Aymara, and “Sana” means “healed” in Spanish —reflecting the healing journey of each artisan. SutiSana provides jobs, benefits, and leadership training to women coming out of trafficking, helping them rebuild their lives and support their families. These women aren’t just workers; they’re leaders in the making.
The Hon’s Lotion Bar is handcrafted in Baltimore by Hon’s Honey, an extension of The Well. Women survivors of trauma —including trafficking, addiction, abuse, and generational poverty— go through a life development program before joining the team. With local honey and beeswax, they create natural body products in a supportive, healing-centered workplace. The bar itself is luxurious and smells great; but what it represents is even more powerful: purpose, healing, and hope.
Although Jess doesn’t make the products herself, her work with A Beautiful Calling is just as meaningful. By carefully curating these items and sharing the stories behind them, she connects us —her customers— with women around the world who are courageously rewriting their stories. Every item has intention and helps to support women around the world on their journeys of healing and empowerment.
This isn’t just shopping —it’s solidarity. It’s saying, “We see you, we believe in you, and we’re standing with you.” We can honor their stories and help them rewrite their futures. I’m so thankful to be part of that. I’m honored to support this mission and these women —and I hope you will be too.
