Year in the Bible Week 5 Day 4 (32): All Your Heart

Read: Joshua 21-24

Apologies for the delay today. Time is fleeting and always seems to go by way faster than we realize, especially time with my babies. Why can’t that just slow down?!

We are officially one month into 2026. I’m proud to say that I have read my Bible every single day. If you haven’t, that’s okay, but if it’s a goal of yours, it’s never too late to start making it a new habit in your life. I’ve noticed that I’m watching way less TV because I’m spending more time reading the Word of God, which is obviously a wonderful trade-off.

What stood out to me today, and what I would argue is the most important part of today’s reading, is found in Joshua 22 and seen again Matthew, Mark, and Deuteronomy.

“But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you: to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.” —Joshua 22:5

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” —Mark 12:30–31

“Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’” -Matthew 22:37

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” -Deuteronomy 6:5

That seems pretty self-explanatory and clear; direct orders from God Himself. What does that actually look like in reality for us today though? As busy moms and wives, maybe busy with a job, family and friends, running a homestead, or simply keeping up with our households, so much can get in the way of loving and obeying God with all of ourselves. I know I personally find it challenging.

Loving God with all our heart and mind in the busyness of motherhood doesn’t have to look perfect. It can look like inviting Him into the ordinary, praying while rocking your little one, turning on worship music in the car, or speaking Scripture over our children, and ourselves, in hard moments. It looks like choosing patience when we’re exhausted, asking for forgiveness when we mess up, and being intentional about what we allow to shape our thoughts and minds. Motherhood is busy, loud, and overwhelming at times, but it is also holy work and ministry. When we keep choosing God in the middle of the chaos, we are loving and serving Him with all that we have. How beautiful is that?!

Discussion Questions

  1. Joshua calls God’s people to love and serve the Lord with all their heart and soul. What parts of your life feel easiest to surrender to God right now, and which feel hardest?
  2. What are some simple ways you can invite God into the busyness of life this week?

A Note from the Author

Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.

The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me, what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture, and what the Holy Spirit is sharing through me. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.

This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.

Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.

Blessings,

Maria Wilcoxon
