Year in the Bible Week 5 Day 5 (33): IF God is Real

Read: Job 9-10

After reading today’s passage, I spent some time researching. During Job’s lament, he begins to misinterpret and misunderstand God. From reading Job from the beginning, we know details that Job himself is unaware of, so I can understand why he feels confused. The acts against him came from Satan, not from God, but Job doesn’t know that. This is what begins to develop his spiritual crisis.

Job’s conception of God starts to become twisted by his experiences.

“He would crush me with a storm and multiply my wounds for no reason. He would not let me catch my breath but would overwhelm me with misery.” -Job 9:17-18

Job is forming a negative picture of God and placing Him in a light that isn’t accurate. Even in the Old Testament, God still loves and deeply cares for His people.

From my research, I discovered a man named Aiden Wilson Tozer (1897–1963). He was an influential American pastor and author known for his deep emphasis on knowing God and developing the inner spiritual life. (Enduringword.com & Wikipedia). He once wrote:

“The most important thing about you is what comes to your mind when you think of God.” -Aiden Tozer

Wow! That is so profound. Think about it: what comes to your mind when you think of God?

What comes to my mind is Someone so powerful and so loving. A God capable of performing miracles and creating everything around us, including myself. My God who will welcome me into heaven with open arms and a huge heart. A Father that I know I unfortunately hurt when I choose sin.

I think about people I know and their understanding or thoughts about God based on what they’ve shared with me. Some people see Him as a genie, there to grant wishes on command. Some see Him as nothing more than a fairytale or folklore, something to possibly believe in but not truly real. Others see God as their life raft and the only reason they are still alive today, keeping them afloat in the fast currents and crashing waves of life. We all have different convictions and perceptions. However, it is important to read the Word of God and be in relationship with Him to better understand and truly know Him.

How we see God and how we think about God impacts how we live, how we raise our children, and the morals we hold onto. IF God is real, then we need to live as if He is. I believe God is real, and I try to live as such. I am also trying to raise my children to believe and live that way too.

Discussion Questions

  2. Has your perception of, or feelings towards, God changed based on your circumstances?

A Note from the Author

Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.

The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me, what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture, and what the Holy Spirit is sharing through me. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.

This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.

Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.

Blessings,

Maria Wilcoxon
