Year in the Bible Week 10 Day 8 (63): He Has Risen

Read: Matthew 26-28

Easter is less than one month away. Today at my mom’s group Bible study we talked about this. One of the questions we discussed (not worded exactly like this) was: How can we share Jesus with others this Easter?

One suggestion was simply inviting people to church. Holidays like Easter are such a good opportunity to welcome someone to church for the first time, or to invite someone back who hasn’t been in a long time. Sometimes people are just waiting for someone to ask.

One thing I shared that I’m personally trying to do is pray for people when I’m out and about. When I stop to treat myself to a coffee I try to ask the barista if there’s anything I can pray for them about. Today actually happened to be my 30th birthday, so I went to Starbucks for my free birthday drink. I was nervous to ask the barista if I could pray for her, but I had just shared this challenge with my mom friends and I wanted to be true to what I said.

The girl at the window wished me a happy birthday, and before leaving I asked if there was anything I could pray for her about. She lit up and shared that she was going through a hard breakup and had been reaching out to Jesus and listening to worship songs in her car. Right before I drove away, I noticed the cross necklace she was wearing. Join me in praying for Bella! I shared a little encouragement and prayed for her, and I drove away feeling really grateful for that moment.

Moments like that remind me how many people around us are quietly hurting or searching. Sometimes all it takes is a small step of courage to open the door for a meaningful conversation about faith.

One thing we should be careful not to do is deny Jesus. By not sharing His goodness and His love, in some ways we can unintentionally do that. Peter never thought he would deny Jesus, and yet he did.

“… Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: ‘Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.’ And he went outside and wept bitterly.” -Matthew 26:75

It’s a reminder for us to stay vigilant and to challenge ourselves to proclaim Jesus Christ even when it feels awkward or uncomfortable. Our faith was never meant to be hidden. Let that light shine!

As we know, Jesus died and rose again. All of this happened exactly as it had been prophesied and promised in Scripture. Jesus willingly went to the cross for us.

“He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.” -Matthew 28:6

Jesus paid for all of our sins forever. However, that does not mean that we should take advantage of that grace and continue living in sin. Instead, we should live with gratitude and do our best to turn from sin and live lives worthy of the sacrifice that He made for us.

Before He went into heaven, Jesus left His followers with a clear instruction, something that still applies to us today.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” -Matthew 28:19

As we get closer to Easter, challenge yourself to share Jesus with someone. Invite someone to church, pray for them, speak encouragement, or simply remind someone of the hope that we have in Him. Also, take time to remember the One who died for you, rose again, and loves you deeply.

Discussion Question

  1. How can you share Jesus with others this Easter?
  2. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…” Matthew 28:19
What do you think “making disciples” looks like in ordinary life today, especially for parents, friends, coworkers, neighbors, family members, or your children?

A Note from the Author

Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.

The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me, what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture, and what the Holy Spirit is sharing through me. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.

This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.

Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.

Blessings,

Maria Wilcoxon
