Year in the Bible Week 9 Day 6 (62): One & Only God

Read: Isaiah 45-50

So many times in these chapters we see the Lord clearly declare who He is. Over and over again, He says there is no other God. In Isaiah 45:5–6, and again in verses 12, 14, 18, 21, and 22, He makes it unmistakable that He alone is God.

“I am the Lord, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God.” -Isaiah 45:5

“… people may know there is none besides me. I am the Lord, and there is no other.” -Isaiah 45:6

“It is I who made the earth and created mankind on it. My own hands stretched out the heavens.” -Isaiah 45:12

“… there is no other God.” -Isaiah 45:14

“For this is what the Lord says—he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth… he says: ‘I am the Lord, and there is no other.’” -Isaiah 45:18

“… And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me.” -Isaiah 45:21

“Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.” -Isaiah 45:22

Let it be clear: there is one God. One Lord. One Creator. He made us. He formed the earth. He stretched out the heavens. He knew us when we were knit together in our mother’s womb. He loves us, watches over us, and is the One in whom we should place our faith, trust, and hope. We are not to have other gods or idols before Him.

In Isaiah 47, we see warnings against the practices of Babylon—sorcery, astrology, stargazing, conjuring. These are very modern temptations, and we see those in practice today. New age behaviors, trusting in horoscopes, manifesting, looking to the world or universe instead of the Creator of the universe. God makes it clear that those things will not save us!

“All the counsel you have received has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward… But they are like stubble; the fire will burn them up.” -Isaiah 47:13–14

As we read, in Isaiah 49:23, we see this beautiful promise:

“Those who hope in me will not be disappointed.” -Isaiah 49:23

I think it’s so easy to feel disappointed when God doesn’t answer a prayer the way we hoped or when something we desperately want doesn’t come to pass. We may feel let down. I know that I have before. That disappointment is nothing compared to the joy and glory waiting for us when we trust His plan. Sometimes what feels like a “no” is actually protection or redirection.

We live in a world, especially with social media constantly in front of us, where it’s easy to see what others have, what they’re doing, what they’re experiencing, what they look like, and feel jealousy creep in. I struggle with it! It’s hard not to compare yourself to others. It’s hard not to want certain things for yourself and family.

God is not against blessing His people. But the danger comes when we place our worth in those blessings. When we love the gifts more than the Giver. When we allow possessions, status, or experiences to sit above Him in our hearts.

When God comes first, truly comes first, you realize that if you have Him, you have everything you will ever need. There’s a song that says, “If I’ve got Jesus, I’ve got all that I could ever need.” That is truth. He gives life and life in abundance. Not always abundance in material things, but abundance in peace, purpose, security, love, and eternity.

The world is loud. It is right there in your face every single day. That is why it is so important to keep the Word of God in front of your face even more so. Read it over and over again. These words are like a love letter, from a Father to His children, from a Groom to His bride. God wants us to know, without a doubt, that He loves us so much!

Mothers, think about how much you love your children. You want them to know it. You want them to feel secure in it. You would do anything you could to provide for them and protect them. Now multiply that beyond measure. That is how God loves us. Nothing stands in His way. No obstacle is too big for Him. He is always there.

Don’t be afraid to pray bold prayers and pray big prayers. Pray with open hands, mind, and heart. Understand that if something is not in God’s plan for you, it may not happen in the exact way that you desire. That doesn’t mean that He doesn’t hear you. That doesn’t mean that He isn’t working. He can still perform miracles and move mountains. But we must trust Him completely; no one else, just Him.

I have some big prayers that I’m holding before the Lord right now too. At the end of the day, it’s all up to God.

Trust Him.
Hope in Him.
There is no other.

Discussion Question

  1. Isaiah 45 repeats the phrase, “I am the Lord, and there is no other.” Why do you think God emphasizes this so many times in these chapters?

A Note from the Author

Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.

The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me, what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture, and what the Holy Spirit is sharing through me. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.

This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.

Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.

Blessings,

Maria Wilcoxon
