Year in the Bible Week 10 Day 2 (64): God’s Temple

Read: 1 Corinthians 3-4

Tonight’s Bible study reflection is coming to your inbox pretty late. That is because I spent the day celebrating my 30th birthday with friends and family. Thank you to all of the lovely ladies who were able to make it to my party! I appreciate your love and support as I enter into this new decade.

My sister-in-law said to my husband (who is her older brother), “Aren’t you happy that your wife is having a crafting night with friends to celebrate her birthday instead of going out to a bar or drinking or something like that?” And honestly, that’s exactly what I wanted, just a sweet and fun girls’ night. We spent time crafting, snacking, listening to clean and enjoyable music, and simply enjoying being together. It was such a great time!

Ultimately, it is the Lord who judges our hearts and our actions. So no, I am not trying to be judgmental toward anyone who might choose to celebrate in a different way. That is completely up to each person, their convictions, and the choices that they make.

“… It is the Lord who judges me.” -1 Corinthians 4:4

What does matter is remembering who we belong to. We are God’s. He created us, and we should strive to live for Him.

“… you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.” -1 Corinthians 3:23

Scripture also reminds us that our lives are not our own. We carry the presence of God with us.

“Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?” -1 Corinthians 3:16

And we are not just individuals trying to figure life out alone, we are part of God’s work together. We are surrounded by brothers and sisters in Christ.

“For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.” -1 Corinthians 3:9

What a wonderful reminder that we are children of the Lord. The Holy Spirit dwells within each of us believers and surrounds us. Wherever we go, we can know that we have His presence, His love, His guidance, and His protection.

Sometimes that looks like something simple and beautiful, like a room full of friends, crafting together, laughing, and celebrating another year of life that God has so graciously given. As I blew out my candles, I wasn’t even making a “wish” I was saying a prayer to the One who knows my heart.

Discussion Question

  1. How does knowing that the Holy Spirit lives within you affect the way that you approach everyday activities?
  2. Why do you that think faith-centered friendships and community are important for spiritual growth?
  3. What are some simple ways that you can bring faith into ordinary gatherings with friends or family?

A Note from the Author

Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.

The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me, what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture, and what the Holy Spirit is sharing through me. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.

This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.

Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.

Blessings,

Maria Wilcoxon
