A Mission Rooted in Faith
From the moment I connected with April Wendel, it was clear that Roberta Gene was not just another natural product boutique. It’s a ministry. April’s story is full of quiet obedience, patient waiting, and bold faith. After years of making her own everyday essentials at home, just trying to protect her family from harmful chemicals, God opened the door she had been praying for. When her son graduated high school, she felt the Lord say, now is the time. And she listened.
Roberta Gene was born out of April’s desire to glorify God in every area of life, from the ingredients in her soap to the integrity in her business practices. Her store reflects what it looks like to walk in purpose, live simply, and honor God through everyday stewardship. When you step into her boutique, or shop online, you’re entering a space covered in prayer and built on a foundation of Christ’s love.
The Heart Behind the Name
The name Roberta Gene carries deep family significance. It honors April’s grandparents, Roberta Irene and Denzil Gene, who were instrumental in raising her and her four siblings. Her logo is made from their real signatures, a beautiful nod to legacy and love. Her grandpa, at 88 years old, still travels the country volunteering with Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief. That same spirit of service and compassion lives on through April and her work. In a world where branding can feel shallow, this is something different. It’s generational love, faithfulness, and mission wrapped into one name.
Living Naturally, Living Holy
April is deeply committed to offering handmade, all-natural products that are safe for our bodies and good for the earth. She avoids anything with PFAS, parabens, synthetic fragrances, and other toxins. Instead, she fills her shelves with products made from herbs, plants, and ingredients God gave us from the beginning.
But she goes even deeper than that. April sees holistic, sustainable living as a spiritual practice; a way to honor the Lord by caring for the bodies He gave us and the earth He created. Her boutique isn’t just about clean ingredients; it’s about clean living that reflects God’s design and care for creation.
It’s a rare and beautiful thing when a shop can align your values, your faith, and your daily needs in one place. Roberta Gene does exactly that.

Products with Purpose
Everything in the boutique is carefully selected to meet high standards; clean, effective, ethically made, and often handcrafted by other small U.S.-based makers. Here are just a few customer favorites:
- Tallow-based skin care
- Non-toxic laundry detergent
- Swedish dishcloths
- Elderberry tinctures
- Handmade soaps
- Deodorant, candles, salves, and more
These aren’t just “trendy” green alternatives. They’re real solutions to support wellness, reduce waste, and live simply, on purpose.

Business as a Ministry
April is very clear that her business is also a form of ministry. Her prayer is that through Roberta Gene, she can be a light. Whether she’s chatting with a customer at a local pop-up or packing an online order, she’s thinking about how she can share the love of Jesus through her actions, her words, and her products.
Her commitment to transparency, honesty, and integrity is rooted in biblical principles. She runs her business the way she lives her life: with care, conviction, and compassion. Every decision, from product sourcing to packaging, is made through a lens of faith.
April is using her boutique as a way to invite people into deeper wholeness, not just physically, but spiritually.
My Personal Review
I received multiple products from Roberta Gene and am so excited about all of them! I have the washable and reusable non-paper towels, the sisal soap bag, and the eco-friendly tallow lotion bug off bar, and every item feels thoughtfully made and high quality.
The soap bag is perfect, and I have been wanting one for a while now. I may have to grab a few more because it’s only $3, such an amazing deal! It works great and is exactly what I was hoping for. I haven’t used the bug off bar yet, but I’m really excited to try it, especially for my toddler. I love finding more natural, eco-friendly options that I feel good about using on my family.
I’ve been transitioning to more reusable items instead of disposable ones, and the non-paper towels are a great step in the right direction for our household. They’re practical, easy to use, and make reducing waste feel simple and achievable.
Roberta Gene has SO MANY amazing options to choose from. Whatever you’re looking for, eco-friendly, reusable, or natural products, you can find it here. Definitely check it out for yourself!

Final Thoughts
What April has created is rare, a shop where clean living and kingdom living go hand in hand. Roberta Gene isn’t just for the crunchy moms or the green lifestyle gurus. It’s for the woman who wants to make small, faithful choices every day. For the mom who wants better for her family. For the believer who wants her life to reflect Christ in the ordinary.
When you support Roberta Gene, you’re not just buying a bar of soap or a bottle of essential oil. You’re supporting a mission that’s bigger than a product; it’s about legacy, faith, health, and love.
And that’s exactly the kind of small business we love to champion here at Cx3 Moms.
Until next time,
From one mama to another, Maria Wilcoxon
