Year in the Bible Week 17 Day 2 (121): Walk by Faith

Read: 2 Corinthians 4-5

Today’s reading is 2 Corinthians 4–5. One of the biggest themes is that what we believe about the future should change how we live right now. Destiny does not just predict our future; it transforms our present. If we truly believe that eternity is real, heaven is real, and Jesus is Lord, then that should affect our mindset, priorities, and daily choices today.

Paul reminds us that as believers, we are meant to reflect God’s light into a dark world.

“For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.” -2 Corinthians 4:6

This points us back to creation.

“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” -Genesis 1:3

From the very beginning, God separates light from darkness. We understand light because darkness exists. We recognize truth because lies exist. We know good because evil is real. That is part of why the gospel matters so much. Jesus brings light into places that were once dark.

Shining that light isn’t always easy.

“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” -2 Corinthians 4:17

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” -2 Corinthians 4:18

That changes everything. The struggles of today are real, but they are not the end of the story. What is visible around us is temporary, but our relationship with God and eternity with Him are everlasting. That is why our faith matters so deeply.

“For we live by faith, not by sight.” -2 Corinthians 5:7

Faith can feel like a trust fall sometimes. We do not physically see everything that God is doing, but we trust Him anyways. We should trust in His promises, His character, and His plan.

“It is written: ‘I believed; therefore I have spoken.’” -2 Corinthians 4:13

“I trusted in the Lord when I said, ‘I am greatly afflicted.’” -Psalm 116:10

Even in suffering, faith still speaks. Faith gives us hope and a renewed spirit.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” -2 Corinthians 5:17

This is where future hope changes present living. If we belong to Christ, we are not who we used to be. Our old life no longer defines us. We live differently now because we know where we are headed one day. It is not about earning heaven through works. It is about a transformed heart, renewed mind, and a life that reflects the One whom we follow and love.

Discussion Questions

  1. How can you reflect Christ’s light to someone in darkness?
  2. Are you currently walking by faith or only by what you can see?

A Note from the Author

Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.

The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me, what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture, and what the Holy Spirit is sharing through me. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.

This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.

Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.

Blessings,

Maria Wilcoxon
