Year in the Bible Week 21 Day 4 (144): Unfailing Love

Read: Psalms 60-62

While reading these Psalms, I kept thinking about love and care. The kind of love that shows up constantly. The kind of love that puts someone else first without even thinking twice about it.

I’ve spent all day taking care of my kids. My husband is home from work today, and I was actually able to sneak away for a pedicure while my nine-month-old happily napped for daddy. But at the end of the day, I’m still her person. She’s exclusively breastfed, so even tonight while everyone else settles down, I’m still the one up with her late into the night. And I would do it again tomorrow because I love her.

Reading Psalm 62 made me think about how much greater God’s love for us is.

“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” -Psalm 62:1–2

David fully rests in God because he knows God loves him, protects him, sustains him, and cares for him. David understands that everything he has comes from the Lord. His safety, his peace, his strength, his life. God has carried him through battle after battle, failure after failure, fear after fear. God was and is there.

I just kept thinking about how naturally we care for the people that we love. I don’t stay up with my baby because it’s easy, I do it because I love her. I comfort her because I love her. I feed her, hold her, and sacrifice sleep for her because she is mine and I love her.

How much more does God care for us? God does not watch over us out of obligation. He cares for us because He loves us. David knows that. That is why his soul can rest. He knows God is dependable. He knows God is safe. He knows God will not abandon him.

Then verse 4 really convicted me too.

“… they take delight in lies. With their mouths they bless, but in their hearts they curse.” -Psalm 62:4

It immediately made me think of gossip and fake behavior. Saying one thing to someone’s face while secretly meaning another. Wanting to hear the latest drama or “tea”. Pretending to care while tearing someone down behind their back. I honestly struggle with gossip sometimes. Gossip can feel so normal in conversation, but this verse reminds me how negative and damaging it really is. People can be inconsistent and fake, but God never is.

“And with you, Lord, is unfailing love.” -Psalm 62:12

That verse sums it all up. God’s love does not fail. It does not change based on His mood or whether we are easy to love that day. His love is steady, faithful, protective, and constant. If imperfect human love can keep a tired mom awake at night caring for her baby, how much more powerful is the unfailing love of God towards us?

Discussion Questions

  1. How do you find rest in God?
  2. In what ways have you experienced God caring for you lately?
  3. How does God’s unfailing love look different from human love?

A Note from the Author

Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.

The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me, what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture, and what the Holy Spirit is sharing through me. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.

This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.

Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.

Blessings,

Maria Wilcoxon
