Looking for a family-friendly outdoor adventure in Ohio? Our recent trip to Mohican Adventures in Loudonville ended up being one of our favorite summer memories, and it’s an experience I’d happily recommend to other families.
A Family Adventure for All Ages
As a mom of a toddler and a baby, I’m always looking for activities that the whole family can genuinely enjoy. Not every adventure is realistic with little ones, but our recent trip to Mohican Adventures in Loudonville, Ohio turned out to be one of those experiences I’d happily do again. We decided to try their rafting tour, and it ended up being one of our favorite days of the summer.
If you’ve ever been white water rafting before, don’t expect that kind of adventure haha. The Mohican River is generally calm and relaxing, making it a wonderful option for families with young children. My toddler had an absolute blast, my baby enjoyed floating along, and the adults were still able to have a great time too. We even pulled over at one point so the kids could put their feet in the water, and honestly, that ended up being one of my favorite moments of the entire trip. Sometimes the best memories are the simple ones.

More Than Just Rafting
One thing I really appreciated about Mohican Adventures is that rafting is only one part of what they offer. Whether you’re looking for a day trip or planning a weekend getaway, there’s something for everyone. They have a campground with cabin rentals, RV and camper sites, and tent camping, along with nearby hiking trails, an aerial adventure course, tubing, putt-putt golf, and go-karts.
Another thing worth mentioning is the parking. There is a lot of it. Even though the parking lot was nearly full when we arrived, it never felt crowded or chaotic. Everything was well organized, and there was plenty of room to unload the kids and get everyone situated before heading to check in.
What to Expect on the River
Mohican Adventures offers both a 3-mile and a 7-mile rafting trip (pricing is available on their website and is subject to change). As of July 2026, they also offered a military discount. I simply showed my military spouse ID, and they applied the discount to our entire party, which was a wonderful surprise and greatly appreciated.
Accessibility and age requirements depend on current river conditions. When we visited, the river level was in the green zone, so there wasn’t a minimum age requirement for rafting. Of course, these guidelines are in place for safety, and it’s always a good idea to check current conditions before your visit.
Life jackets are provided for everyone, but I was also able to bring our children’s own life jackets from home. They fit them well and the kids were already comfortable wearing them, so that gave me a little extra peace of mind.

Mom Tips Before You Go
As a mom, I always wonder about the little details before trying something new with my kids, so here are a few things that stood out to me:
We brought a small bag onto the raft with us, and for extra protection we put our phones and keys inside a simple Ziploc plastic bag. Thankfully, everything stayed dry throughout the trip.
The workers were helpful getting everyone into and out of the rafts, especially those of us juggling little kids. I also have to mention how stable the raft felt. Even when we shifted around to tend to the kids or weren’t perfectly balanced, I never once felt like we were in danger of tipping over. That made the experience so much more relaxing, especially with young children onboard.

Final Thoughts
As a mom, I loved that this wasn’t an activity where I spent the entire time chasing kids while everyone else had fun. We were all able to slow down, enjoy God’s beautiful creation, laugh together, and simply spend quality time as a family. Those are the kinds of outings that I treasure most.
Whether you’re looking for a relaxing rafting trip, a camping weekend, or just a fun family adventure in Ohio, I would absolutely recommend checking out Mohican Adventures. We left already talking about coming back, and I have a feeling this will become one of those places our family visits again and again.
