Year in the Bible Week 19 Day 3 (129): Loved & Seen

Read: Exodus 20-24

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mamas and women out there. No matter what stage of motherhood you are in, I see you. Whether you are raising babies, pregnant, expecting for the first time, trying to conceive, grieving a miscarriage or an angel baby, raising grown children, or balancing being both a mom and grandma, you are deeply loved by God. Women have such a special place throughout the Bible and in God’s heart. We were created with purpose, and motherhood truly is such a beautiful ministry.

Today’s reading is Exodus chapters 21 through 24, and we see the continuation of God speaking to Moses and giving instruction to His people following the Ten Commandments. There are guidelines about servants, injuries, relationships, property, justice, mercy, the Sabbath, annual festivals, and the covenant. Honestly, my head would probably be spinning after receiving all of those instructions from the Lord. The Israelites say they will obey God’s laws, and the covenant is confirmed with blood, but as we know, they still fall short just like we all do. Yet even in their sin and failures, God remains faithful to His promises and eventually brings them into the land He promised them.

One verse that really stood out to me was:

“When they cry out to me, I will hear, for I am compassionate.” -Exodus 22:27

Honestly, that made me think so much about motherhood. When our babies cry out for us, we hear them. We love them. We comfort them. When my now 9-month-old cries in the middle of the night, I console her. When my toddler cries for mommy, I wrap him up in a big hug. They want and need me, and I do my best to be there for them. Of course, not always in the exact way they want or think that they need in that moment, but I try. I fall short, but I try my best to love them well.

God does not fall short. He hears and loves us perfectly. He comes near to us, comforts us, guides us, and stays with us. He is compassionate and faithful in every way that we as humans can never fully be. This Mother’s Day, I am just especially thankful for our Father in Heaven because without Him, we would not be the mothers, women, or people that we are.

Discussion Questions

  1. What does it mean to you that God hears us when we cry out to Him?
  2. How can motherhood reflect the love and compassion of God?

A Note from the Author

Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.

The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me, what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture, and what the Holy Spirit is sharing through me. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.

This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.

Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.

Blessings,

Maria Wilcoxon
