Read: 2 Samuel 10-14
In today’s reading we see David make a huge mistake and act in his sinful nature. Even though he was chosen and anointed by the Lord, and even though he made many faithful choices throughout his life, David was still a sinful man. He gave into temptation with Bathsheba, and his sin continued to spiral into even more actions that displeased God.
“But the thing David had done displeased the Lord.” -2 Samuel 11:27
I think this is an important reminder because sometimes people put Biblical figures on such a high pedestal that we forget they were still human. David loved God deeply, but he still fell short just like we all do. Sin always has consequences, and we cannot hide our actions from God. He sees all of it, even the things we think that no one else notices.
But what is also beautiful is that God’s love does not suddenly disappear when we mess up. In chapter 12, after everything that happened, we see God direct that Solomon also be called Jedidiah, which means “loved by the Lord.”
“Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba … she gave birth to a son, and they named him Solomon. The Lord loved him; and because the Lord loved him, he sent word through Nathan the prophet to name him Jedidiah.” -2 Samuel 12:24–25
Even when we make mistakes, and we do and will continue to, God still loves us. Just as a parent still loves their child even when that child makes mistakes, God still loves His children. That does not mean that He approves of sin, but it does mean His love remains steady. As mothers, we correct our children because we love them, and God does the same with us. He calls us to repent, turn back to Him, and continue walking with Him instead of staying stuck in our sin.

- Why do you think it is important to remember that even strong believers in the Bible still struggled with sin?
- What is the difference between making a mistake and choosing to remain comfortable in sin?
- How does God’s love for us compare to the love that a parent has for their child?

A Note from the Author
Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.
The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me, what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture, and what the Holy Spirit is sharing through me. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.
This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.
Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.
Blessings,
Maria Wilcoxon
