Read: Job 37-38
Today’s reading is Job 37–38. Chapter 37 is the end of Elihu’s speech where he highlighted the power, might, and sovereignty of the Lord.
“God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding.” -Job 37:5
We do not even begin to fully understand what God does, why He does it, or how He does it. God is the beginning and the end. He existed before us and He will still be here after us. His wisdom, power, and authority are beyond human comprehension. Throughout this whole book, Job’s friends have been trying to explain Job’s suffering on a human level. They want a clear answer and justification that fits into human understanding, but God is not limited to human understanding. Our knowledge is so small compared to His infinite wisdom.
Elihu reminds Job of God’s sovereignty and the awe-inspiring power of creation, pointing to things like storms, snow, thunder, and wind as evidence of God’s authority and wisdom. Even creation itself declares how powerful God is. Then finally in chapter 38, the Lord speaks.
“Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm.” -Job 38:1
God begins asking Job question after question about creation, the earth, the seas, the skies, and the foundations of the world. In a way, God is showing Job that if humans cannot even fully understand creation, how could we fully understand the Creator Himself? God has ultimate control and ultimate wisdom, and there are simply things that are beyond what we as humans can grasp. We can grow in understanding through Scripture, prayer, and relationship with Him, but we are still limited because we are human and not God.
Honestly, the simplest comparison I can think of is motherhood and children. A baby or toddler cannot fully understand why their parents make certain choices for them. As parents, we guide them, protect them, teach them, and make decisions based on understanding they do not yet have. Their knowledge is limited compared to ours. Obviously, God’s wisdom compared to ours is infinitely greater than that, but it gives a small glimpse into how limited our understanding can be compared to His.

A Note from the Author
Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the Bible verse studies, devotionals, and prayers that I put together. While I strive to offer meaningful insights and reflections, it’s important to clarify that I am not a trained or licensed biblical professional. My goal is not to provide expert theological advice but to share my personal knowledge, beliefs, and experiences as I read and reflect on the Holy Bible.
The insights I offer come from my own understanding and spiritual journey. I approach these reflections with the intention of sharing what personally resonates with me, what I’ve learned through my own study of Scripture, and what the Holy Spirit is sharing through me. I hope these thoughts are helpful and encouraging, but they are based on my personal perspective rather than formal theological training.
This specific Bible study is based off the book A Beautiful Year in the Bible The 52-Week Bible Study for Women by a series of wonderful authors Copyrighted by Alabaster Creative Inc. I do not own the rights to this book and am not claiming to. I am using the book to create my own version of the Bible in 365 days and continue to direct God’s word towards women, more specifically mothers.
Thank you for your understanding and for joining me in this journey of faith and reflection.
Blessings,
Maria Wilcoxon
